Student placements provide students with the opportunity to apply skills learned inside of the classroom in a workplace environment. Placements help shape and encourage careers path in the healthcare sector and Brightshores always looks forward to being part of the learning experience

The primary goal for placements is to provide students with experience that will integrate the skills learned in the classroom and provide an opportunity to apply their knowledge.

Based on the availability of appropriate preceptors/placement supervisors and the existence of an affiliation agreement between Brightshores and educational facilities, we can accommodate placements in the following areas:

Student Placement Process
Eligibility Criteria
Students must be enrolled in a school/academic program that requires them to complete an unpaid placement/practicum in order to graduate.
Acceptance / Decline
Brightshores will confirm or decline all placement requests with the Program Placement Coordinator and/or students.
Confirmation of Placement
A couple of weeks prior to the start of a confirmed unpaid student placement, the student will receive a confirmation e-mail, which will include a link to the Brightshores student placement website for pre-placement requirements, and contact information for the assigned preceptor and/or manager.
Job Shadow
Job shadowing is an observational experience that is a unique opportunity for an individual to learn about an area of healthcare by spending time with a hospital employee who is currently working in the role. A job shadow typically lasts from a minimum of 4 hours up to a maximum of 4 days.

High School Co-op
High School Co-op placements are offered in a variety of areas at each of our hospital locations. This co-op experience provides students with the opportunity to explore careers in healthcare, develop the essential skills required in the workplace and gain valuable work experience to help build a resume for post-secondary programs and future employment.

How to Submit a Placement Request
Students seeking a placement opportunity at Brightshores should be aware that there are various processes to request a placement, depending on your school program.
Nursing Placements
Program/Placement Coordinators submit placement requests through HSPnet Portal (if applicable) or directly to Learning Resources.
Allied Health, Office Administration and Other Placements Program/Placement Coordinators submit placement requests directly to Learning Resources.
Other Placements (not listed)
Medical Students and Residents, please contact Medical Affairs.
Placement Prerequisites
In order to avoid any delays in your placement start date, please review the information below regarding two of the pre-placement requirements that may take time to gather:
- A current Police Criminal Record Check (less than 6 months) for students 18 and older.
- Health Requirements
