Opportunity
Brightshores Health System (Brightshores) Division of Palliative Care and the Grey Bruce Palliative Medicine Group are seeking a locum physician to join our existing team in providing consultative, shared-care palliative services across a variety of settings in Grey Bruce and Owen Sound. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to deliver palliative care in an inpatient consultation setting, outpatient palliative pain and symptom management clinic, 8-bed residential hospice and community outreach home-based palliative care.

Brightshores operates six hospitals in the Grey Bruce region with its Level 2 regional referral hospital located in the City of Owen Sound. A full range of specialty services are offered through the Departments of Anaesthesia, Diagnostic Imaging, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Oncology, Hospitalist Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pathology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry and Surgery (ENT, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Urology).
Thriving rural hospitals are located in the communities of Lion’s Head, Markdale, Meaford, Southampton and Wiarton, servicing a range of ambulatory, in-patient and emergency needs.
Grey Bruce Palliative Medicine Group
Grey Bruce Palliative Medicine Group is comprised of 6 physicians with enhanced palliative care skills who work collaboratively to provide palliative care across all sectors and care settings throughout Grey and Bruce counties. In addition to inpatient care, we provide community home visits with 24/7 on-call support to patients in community settings including private homes, Grey Bruce Hospice Chapman House residential hospice, long-term care homes, group homes, retirement homes and transitional living settings for those marginally or inadequately housed. On average, the Brightshores Palliative Care Division/Grey Bruce Palliative Medicine Group physicians support a roster of between 100-120 community based patients receiving palliative care each month. We are also a teaching program affiliated with both Western and McMaster Universities with opportunity to be involved in teaching palliative medicine for medical residents.
Qualifications
- MD with CCFP, RCPSC, or equivalent certification
- Certificate of Added Competency in Palliative Care (CAC); Palliative Medicine Subspecialty Accreditation, or equivalent training and experience
- Eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
- Proven ability to operate effectively within a collaborative, shared-care framework.
- Access to transportation to navigate between care settings and provide home based care in rural environment
Compensation
- Locum funding through AFP available or option for FFS if preferred
- Community Palliative Care On-Call (CPOC) funding
