WAGE RATE: $35.89 – $37.26

Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions – Addiction Services, the Addictions Mental Health Counsellor following recovery principles functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary Mental Health and Addictions care team to provide assessment, psycho-educational groups and individual addictions support to people struggling with addiction and mental health issues. The Addictions Mental Health Counsellor must be able to function independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team and work cooperatively with multiple service providers.  This position requires travel throughout the catchment area (Grey and Bruce Counties) to deliver programs and to meet the needs of clients.  This position is initially targeted to work in our Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) within Grey and Bruce Counties, is a member of Addiction Services, and as such may be assigned to another program as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Degree in Nursing, Social Work, Psychology or a related health or Social Science field
  • Addictions Studies Diploma or Graduate Studies Certificate in Addiction Treatment and Prevention
  • 2 years recent experience in addictions treatment, assessment, treatment planning and counselling
  • Knowledge of Substance Use Disorders and Addiction Services
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and familiarity with DSM-V
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current best practices in the treatment of substance abuse and concurrent disorders for individuals and families
  • Proven interpersonal, group and communication skills
  • Able to work independently and as an interdisciplinary team member
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively in a team setting
  • Sound clinical judgement, critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Sound knowledge of Community Addiction Services and supports locally and provincially
  • Ability to advocate, facilitate access to services and coordinate care to meet clients’ needs
  • Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid
  • Computer skills including Word, Outlook, and Internet-based applications (to be tested)
  • Able to work all shifts, 24/7
  • Travelling required-possession of a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s license and personal reliable vehicle
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
