WAGE RATE: $43.04 – $61.59

Reporting to the Director of Quality and Safety, the Nurse Clinician with expertise in surgical and perioperative health care will support Perioperative Services at Brightshores by providing staff development expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent, and leader. Clinical expertise in all areas of surgery and peri-operative services (PSS, OR, MDRD, DS & PACU) is required as the Nurse Clinician supports the development of the front-line nurse, and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidenced based nursing practice. This occurs through the facilitation of the educational process through assessment, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of competency assessment, continuing education and leadership development. In addition, as a role model of professional behavior, the Nurse Clinician is instrumental in creating a professional nursing climate within Brightshores to meet the needs of the diverse units within Brightshores while aligning with the corporate mission, vision, strategic initiatives, core values and priorities.

Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:

Required

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or BScN with relevant Perioperative/OR experience
  • Current Registration as an RN from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Completion of a certificate course in Perioperative Nursing
  • Proficiency and knowledge with SurgiNet
  • Relevant Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Specialty Certification
  • A minimum of five (5) years recent clinical related experience in OR environment
  • A minimum of five (5) years recent clinical related experience in inpatient surgical unit
  • Experience with facilitation of AORN training program
  • A minimum of two (2) years relevant experience in teaching, demonstrating a knowledge of the principles of adult learning
  • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing science theory, and practice within a patient and family centered model of care
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the CNO standards for Nursing Practice and expertise in Perioperative nursing issues
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, competency assessment, program development, facilitation and evaluation skills
  • Membership in one of the following professional associations: RNAO, ORNAC, OPANA
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Demonstrated skills working both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to evaluate relevant research and synthesize information to identify and implement best practices
  • Excellent leadership and autonomy with theoretical and practical experience in adult education including adult education program planning, development, delivery and evaluation
  • Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders and learner populations with effective facilitation and presentation skills, flexible to teach in different learning environments using traditional and computer-based learning
  • Demonstrated ability in change management and quality improvement practices
  • Ability to assume a leadership role in promoting a shared responsibility for professional development
  • Demonstrated effective decision making, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Demonstrates an awareness and working knowledge of relevant legislation and standards that impact patient care, inclusive of infection control practices
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to network effectively with other disciplines.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in word-processing, computer presentation skills and related technology
  • Demonstrated integrity, initiative and commitment to continuing professional development and education
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
