The laboratory provides a broad range of testing both within the department and by referral to other laboratory facilities. We are accredited by Accreditation Canada Diagnostics (ACDx), we pride ourselves in quality patient care.
Our laboratory ensures accurate and timely turnaround of lab tests at all of our sites.
As of January 1, 2023, Brightshores has eliminated outpatient lab services only at the Owen Sound Hospital with the exception of Brightshores Oncology patients.
Owen Sound Oncology patients being cared for by Dr. Aboo and Dr. Sandhu are permitted to book online lab appointments. Patients that book an appointment outside this patient population will not be honored.
If you are not an Oncology patient and require lab work please book an appointment at one of our area sites or with Lifelabs in Owen Sound. Lifelabs does accept walk in patients.

Dynacare
Dynacare Laboratory located in Port Elgin is now open to support community collections.
Location: 466 Goderich St. Port Elgin Ontario N0H 2C4 (inside Rexall)
Dynacare is open for walk in appointments between 9am- 5pm Monday to Friday.
MOH OHIP requisitions are required when attending Lifelabs or Dynacare locations for blood collections. Dynacare accepts specimen collected by patient to be dropped off at the Port Elgin location. These include but are not limited to stool and urine. OHIP/ MOH requisition is required.
Occult Blood Testing At Dynacare:

If patients no longer need a Brightshores Lab appointment, they are asked to cancel using our Lab Appointment Cancelation Process: using the cancelation link in their confirmation email or text from Brightshores. If a patient did not receive a confirmation email or text and needs to cancel a Lab appointment, they can call 519-376-2121 ext. 2592.

Please note that patients will be billed for all lab tests not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). While OHIP covers the cost of most laboratory tests, there are some specialized, non-routine tests that are uninsured. Patients will be billed at the time of service.
